losetMaid’s eco-friendly closets: durable, functional and customizable wire shelving can help make it easier for you to organize every area of the home–from walk-in and reach-in closets to kitchen pantries, laundry rooms and garages.

We are proud to announce ClosetMaid’s wire shelving products earned its first SCS Recycled Content Certification in 2010 for being made from 75 percent recycled steel. It was the first closet system on the market to earn this certification. Now, three years later, ClosetMaid products are made from at least 90 percent recycled content, including 86 percent post-consumer and four percent pre-consumer recycled steel.

All ClosetMaid wire shelving products now support the creation of a healthy indoor living environment.  ClosetMaid’s wire shelving products meet all of the necessary qualifications to be SCS Certified for indoor air quality (IAQ) chemical emission limits, earning the Indoor Advantageâ„¢ Gold Indoor Air Quality Certification.  This level of certification verifies compliance with established standards for low volatile organic compounds (VOC). SCS verification minimizes the risk of VOC chemical hazards and off-gassing by interior building products, both of which may present health and safety issues for occupants.

To achieve these certifications, ClosetMaid’s wire shelving underwent an extensive audit and review by SCS Global Services, including eco-friendly closet product performance testing and reviews of the manufacturing process. Eco-friendly closet products with the SCS Recycled Content Certification can also help meet the new LEED v4 (version 4) criteria for Materials and Resources (MR3) specified by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC).

Additionally, eco-friendly closet products with the SCS Indoor Advantage Gold Certification meet LEED v4’s Environmental Quality (EQ2) credit for low-emitting materials. These credits provides a pathway to LEED certification, assuring that certified materials are environmentally responsible as well as contributing to the comfort and well-being of a building’s occupants.
